Estimated 10-Day Totals of COVID-19 Cases
The map shows the estimated sum of new cases over the previous 10-day period. Numbers are per 10,000 people in order to allow meaningful comparison across counties having variable populations. A 10-day period was chosen to estimate “active” cases. Data was acquired from the New York Times (https://github.com/nytimes/covid-19-data). See the methods section for a description of how this data was modeled.

Estimated Exposure Risk to COVID-19
The animation below shows an estimated risk of exposure to COVID-19. Estimated exposure risk is the current ratio of individuals transmitting COVID-19 — expressed here as number of infectious individuals per number of people (e.g., 1 in 50 are actively transmitting the virus). Data was acquired from the New York Times (https://github.com/nytimes/covid-19-data). Please see the methods section for a description of how this data was modeled.
The graph below shows an estimate of the infectious frequency of COVID-19 over time. Infectious frequency is the current ratio of individuals transmitting COVID-19. These are people who are infectious, but not home sick and isolating–either because they are unaware they are infected, or because they have chosen not to isolate despite developing mild symptoms. For this estimate, we have assumed that 10% of the COVID-19 infections were diagnosed. The upper error line assumes only 5% of the infections are diagnosed. The lower error line assumes 20% of the infections are diagnosed. Data were acquired from the New York Times (https://github.com/nytimes/covid-19-data).
